Secondary BrucePac Listeria monocytogenes recalls are starting to mount up. The original recall, for tens of millions of pounds of fully cooked chicken and other meats, was issued on October 9, 2024 and expanded on October 15, 2024. If you have any of these products in your home, do not eat them, especially if they are salads or wraps and are not heated first. Secondary Recalls Schoola On October 17, 2024, the USDA announced that some of the recalled BrucePac products were sent to schools. FDA Weighs In on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder E. coli Outbreak

The FDA has weighed in on the McDonald's Quarter Pounder E. coli outbreak. That outbreak has sickened at least 49 people in 10 states. Ten people are hospitalized, one person has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), and one person, who lived in Colorado, has died. The case count by state is: Colorado (26), Iowa (1), Kansas (1), Missouri (1), Montana (1), Nebraska (9), Oregon (1), Utah (4), Wisconsin (1), and Wyoming (1). Illness onset dates range from September 27, 2024 to October 11, 2024. The patient age range is from 13 to 88. One person has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. Alert For Meat and Poultry Products Imported From Myanmar

The USDA has issued a public health alert f0r meat and poultry products that were illegally imported from the country of Myanmar. That country is not allowed to import these products into the United States. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions reported to date. These items include: 180 gram cans containing “BEST BEEF CURRY.” 425 gram cans containing “BEST Chicken Biryani.” 360 gram cans containing “Hti Mi Gwik Dry MoHinGa Paste.” 425 gram cans containing “BEST Myanmar Duck Blood.” 400 gram cans containing “Eain Chak MoHinGa Paste.” 160 gram vacuum sealed clear packages containing “Min Thar Gyi Dried Fish.” 400 gram cans containing “Eain Chak Coconut Soup Paste.” These items do not have an establishment number or a USDA mark of inspection. … [Read more...]

Food Poisoning Outbreak in Howard County, MD Sickens 46

A food poisoning outbreak in Howard County, Maryland has Sickened at least 46 people, according to the Howard County Health Department. All 46 patients were transported to area hospitals. All are non-critical. This outbreak happened on October 21, 2024 at a facility in the 700 block of Chesapeake Bay Court in Jesus, Maryland in the afternoon. There is no further information on the age of the patents, or whether or not any are still hospitalized. The patients all allegedly ate the same food. Mutual aid was provided by Anne Arundel and Baltimore County officials. News reports are conflicting. TreeHouse waffles and pancakes are being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes in an expansion of the October 18, 2024 recall of waffles. All products manufactured at one of the company's facilities within their shelf life are included in this recall. There have been no confirmed reports of illnesses received by the company to date in connection with the consumption of these products. The recall was expanded based on additional testing at the manufacturing facility. The recalling firm is TreeHouse Foods of Oak Brook, Illinois. HuHill Farm Raw Milk Recalled For Possible Campylobacter

HuHill Farm Raw Milk is being recalled again for possible Campylobacter contamination, according to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. The milk from that dairy, which is located at 232 Lighthall Road in Fort Plain, New York, was also recalled in August 2024 for the same reason. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this milk. A routine sample of the milk that was collected by a health inspector was found to be contaminated with that pathogen. On October 17, 2024, the producer was notified about a preliminary positive test result. On October 21, 2024, further laboratory testing confirmed that the milk was contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni. LongHorn Steakhouse Shigella Outbreak Sickens 92, Reopens

The LongHorn Steakhouse Shigella outbreak has now sickened at least 92 people, according to the St. Clair County Health Department. The restaurant has been approved for reopening by that agency. The restaurant voluntarily closed their facility, which is located at 6115 North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights, Illinois, on October 2, 2024 and has fully cooperated with the St. Clair County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health in their investigation. The restaurant employed professional environmental cleaning services to prevent any further spread of the illness, as well as training to restaurant staff on proper handwashing and safe food handling practices.
