Do Not Eat Certain Shellfish From OR and WA Because of PSP

The FDA says consumers should not eat certain shellfish harvested from Oregon and Washington waters because they may be contaminated with paralytic shellfish poison (PSP). Restaurants and retailers should not sell these products. Retailers and restaurants in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Washington may have purchased oysters and bay clams from growing areas in Netarts Bay and Tillamook bay, Oregon harvested on or after May 28, 2024. All shellfish from growing areas in Willapa Bay, Washington Stony Point, harvested between May 26, 2024 and May 30, 2024;5/26/24; from Bay Center, harvested between May 29, 2024 and May 30, 2024; and Bruceport, harvested between May 29, 2024 and May 30, 2024 are included. FDA Weighs In On Cucumber Salmonella Outbreak

The FDA is weighing in on the cucumber Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 162 people in 25 states and the District of Columbia. Fresh Start Produce Sales has recalled cucumbers that were grown in Florida and distributed to wholesalers, food service distributors, and retail distribution centers in these states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia from May 17th through May 21st, 2024. Frigorífico Casa Blanca Frozen Raw Beef Recalled

Frigorífico Casa Blanca frozen raw beef is being recalled for lack of inspection. These items were not presented to FSIS for import reinspection upon entry into the United States. There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. About 20,111 pounds of frozen raw beef products are included in this recall. They were imported from Uruguay on or around March  17 ,2024. The recalled products include: Various weight cardboard cases labeled as “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) Found Along Washington’s Coast

Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) has been found in recreationally harvested shellfish along Washington's Pacific coast, according to the Washington State Department of Health. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these shellfish. All recreational shellfish harvesting is prohibited in Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay due to "extreme PSP risk." This is part of a broader PSP occurrence along the Oregon coast, where several recreational mussel harvesters were sickened over the Memorial Day weekend. There are no reports of illness associated with shellfish harvested in Washington state. All commercial shellfish harvesting is closed in Willapa Bay too, because of elevated marine biotoxin levels. Cucumber Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 162 in 25 States

A cucumber Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 162 people in 25 states and the District of Columbia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fresh Start Produce cucumbers are implicated in this outbreak. The strain of Salmonella is Salmonella Africana. CDC and FDA are also investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup infections, with 158 illnesses in 23 states. The two outbreaks are similar, including where and when illnesses occurred and the demographics. Investigators are working to determine whether the two outbreaks could be linked to the same food. New Seasons Strawberry Rhubarb Bakewell Tart Recalled

New Seasons Strawberry Rhubarb Bakewell Tart is being recalled because it contains almonds, or tree nuts, that are not declared on the label as required. Anyone who is allergic to almonds could have a serious reaction if they eat this item. A staff member ate the tart and had a mild reaction but did not seek medical attention. The manufacturer of the product was informed. The recalling firm is New Seasons Market of Portland, Oregon. The problem is that almond flour was used to make the tart, but almond was not listed in the product specification. New Seasons Market initiated this recall. The recalled product is New Seasons Strawberry Rhubarb Bakewell Tart. It was sold at bakery and pastry departments in the New Seasons Market stores in Oregon and Washington. The recall of Crecelac Infant Formula for possible Cronobacter contamination has been updated to include more identifying information. There have been no reports of illness in association with the consumption of this product received by the FDA or the company to date. The recalling firm is Dairy Manufacturers Inc. of Prosper, Texas. The recalled product is Crecelac Infant Formula 0-12 months. It is a powdered goat milk infant formula. The UPC number that is stamped on the product label is 8 50042 40847. The lot code for this product is 24 039 1 CHE 352-1 that is printed on the bottom of the can. And the expiration date for this item is 08/2025. Recall of JBR’s Frozen Oysters For Norovirus Updated

The recall of JBR's frozen oysters for possible norovirus has been updated to include more lot numbers. There are illnesses associated with the consumption of these raw oysters. JBR (KR_15-SP) Tongyeong, Republic of Korea is recalling all frozen half shell oysters that were harvested between November 26, 2023 and February 14, 2024 for possible norovirus contamination. The recalled oysters were processed by JBR between November 27, 2023 and February 15, 2024. Have Cucumbers Caused Outbreaks in the Past?

In the wake of the recall of Fresh Start cucumbers for possible Salmonella contamination, have cucumbers caused outbreaks in the past? Yes, they have, and some have been deadly. The FDA is conducting testing to see if the cucumbers are related to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 100 people. In 2013, a Salmonella Saintpaul outbreak linked to imported cucumbers sickened at least 84 people in 18 states. Illness onset dates range from January 12, 2023 to April 28, 2024. Twenty-eight percent of patients were hospitalized. In 2015 and 2016, a huge Salmonella Poona outbreak linked to cucumbers sickened at least 907 people in 40 states. Casablanca Classics Coconut Water Recalled For Sulphites

Casablanca Classics Coconut Water with Pulp is being recalled in Canada because it may contain undeclared sulphites. People who are allergic to or sensitive to sulphites could have reactions that range from asthma-like symptoms to hives or hay fever symptoms. Some people could have an anaphylactic reaction. Sulphites are a type of preservative used in food and beverages. There was no mention about any illnesses in the recall notice. The recalling firm is Gelda Foods. The recalled product is Casablanca Classics Pure Coconut Water with Pulp. It was sold at the retail level in the province of Ontario. The coconut water is packaged in a 520 milliliter bottle.
