Trufresh Expands Cantaloupe Salmonella Recall to Include Rudy

Trufresh has expanded their cantaloupe recall for possible Salmonella contamination to include the Rudy brand, and all Malichita brands. There is a deadly Salmonella outbreak linked to these cantaloupes that has sickened at least 99 people in 32 states. The recalling firm is Sofia Produce of Nogales, Arizona, doing business as Trufresh. The cantaloupe are packed in cardboard containers labeled with the Malichita and Rudy brand names. The cantaloupes were sold between October 10, 2023 and November 3, 2023. They were imported from Mexico. The fruit was sold directly to retail outlets in these states: Arizona, California. Cantaloupe Salmonella Cases Soar to 99 With Two Deaths

The cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has grown rapidly, with 56 more cases in 32 states, 28 new hospitalizations, and two deaths, according to the CDC. Two more recalls have been issued. That's an increase of 56 new cases, 28 new hospitalizations, and 17 new states since the last update was issued seven days ago. The deaths are also new. Freshness Guaranteed fruit and RaceTrac fruit are being recalled in relation to the Salmonella outbreak linked to Trufresh Malichita cantaloupe that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. These products were made from whole cantaloupe distributed by that company. No illnesses connected to these specific products have been reported to the company as of November 22, 2023. The recalling firm is CF Dallas. All CF Dallas fresh cut fruit products associated with this cantaloupe recall have expired, but consumers may have bought them and froze them for later use. Salmonella Newport Outbreak on FDA CORE Outbreak Table

There is a new Salmonella Newport outbreak on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. It joins the Salmonella Sundsvall outbreak linked to cantaloupe, the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to peaches, plums, and nectarines, and the elevated lead poisoning cases linked to recalled WanaBana fruit purees. There are also two mystery E. coli outbreaks, and the Salmonella Thompson outbreak linked to recalled Gills onions. For the new Salmonella Newport outbreak, 40 people are ill. The FDA is weighing in on the Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. The cantaloupes themselves have been recalled, along with Vinyard brand precut cantaloupe products and ALDI whole cantaloupe and pre-cut fruit products. The case count by state is: Arizona (7), California (1), Georgia (2), Illinois (4), Kentucky (3), Maryland (1), Minnesota (5), Missouri (5), Nebraska (4), Ohio (1), Oklahoma (1), Texas (3), Virginia (1), Washington (1), and Wisconsin (4). ALDI cantaloupe, cantaloupe chunks, and pineapple are being recalledĀ for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been linked to these products, according to the recall notice. These products were produced by Sofia Produce doing business as TruFresh, Anthony Marano Company, and Market Cuts LLC. There is a Salmonella outbreak linked to recalled Malichita cantaloupes that has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states. That fruit was also sold by TruFresh. The recalled products include whole cantaloupe, with UPC numbers 4061464587694, 717524410023, 850677002001, and 717524410085. A Minnesota Salmonella outbreak linked to recalled Malichita cantaloupes has sickened at least five people in that state, according to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). This outbreak is linked to a larger multistate outbreak, in which at least 43 people in 15 states are sick. One person in the Twin Cities metro area has been hospitalized because they are so sick. Malichita Cantaloupe Salmonella Outbreak in Canada Sickens 8

A Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak in Canada has sickened at least eight people in British Columbia, according to the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). Those cantaloupes have been recalled in the United States as well, although no illnesses are reported here. The eight cases in British Columbia are aged 0 to 68. They live in the Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, and Island Health regions. The rare strain of Salmonella that has caused these illnesses is Salmonella Sundsvall or Salmonella Soahanina. Genetic sequencing that was conducted with some of the patient isolates and the strain of Salmonella found in the cantaloupes shows a link.
