Boar’s Head Listeria Outbreak Sickens 34; Outbreak Strain Found

The deadly Boar's Head Listeria outbreak has sickened at least 34 people in 13 states and hospitalized 33, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). There are two deaths associated with this outbreak; one in Illinois and one in New Jersey. And the recall for Boar's Head deli meats has been expanded. The case count by state is: Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Indiana (1), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), New Jersey (2), New York (12), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (2), and Wisconsin (1). Deadly Listeria Outbreak Associated with Boar’s Head Meats

The deadly Listeria monocytogenes outbreak announced on July 19, 2024 by the CDC is associated with recalled Boar's Head meats. Testing found Listeria monocytogenes in an unopened package of Boar's Head liverwurst collected as part of the investigation. Testing is underway to see if it is the outbreak strain. The case count by state is: Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Indiana (1), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), New Jersey (2), New York (12), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (2), and Wisconsin (1). The Infinite Herbs Basil Salmonella outbreak has ended with 36 people sick in 14 states, and four hospitalizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Epidemiologic and traceback data showed that Infinite Herbs organic basil may have been contaminated with Salmonella bacteria and made people sick. This outbreak is over as of June 18, 2024. Cracker Barrel Salmonella Outbreak in Illinois Sickens Eight

A Cracker Barrel Salmonella outbreak in a city in Illinois has sickened at least eight people, according to a press release from the Kankakee County Health Department. That restaurant is located at 50 Ken Hayes Drive in Bourbonnais. As of May 14, 2024, the patent case count is eight. The press release did not state whether or not any of the patients have been hospitalized. The restaurant voluntarily closed on May 4, 2024 and is cooperating with the health department to try to determine the source of the pathogen. Public health officials inspected the restaurant and provided an environmental assessment. They also gave employees guidance on safe food handling and cleaning. There are now 354 kids sick in the WanaBana purees lead and chromium poisoning outbreak, according to the CDC. The FDA has found chromium in those products. There are 93 confirmed cases of lead poisoning, 233 probable cases, and 28 suspect cases.
