The Milo's Poultry Farms eggs Salmonella outbreak has ended with 93 people sick in 12 states and 34 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That's an addition of three states and 30 more illnesses since the last update was issued on September 6, 2024. Many eggs, including duck eggs, were recalled in response to this outbreak. Most of the sick persons live in Wisconsin, where the farm is located. The case count by state is: Arizona (1), California (5), Colorado (1), Illinois (12), Iowa (2), Michigan (3), Minnesota (5), New York (1), Oregon (1), Utah (1), Virginia (1), and Wisconsin (60). The USDA investigating Boar's Head Listeria Monocytogenes outbreak, according to U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). That deadly outbreak is linked to that company's deli meats. That outbreak has sickened at least 59 people in 19 states and 10 people have died. The LongHorn Steakhouse shigella outbreak in Illinois has sickened at least 68 people, according to a news release issued by the St. Clair COunty Health Department in Belleville, Illinois. That restaurant is located at 6115 North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights, Illinois. As of October 11, 2024, this case count is correct. There are 24 patients with positive Shigella lab reports, and an additional 44 people who are reporting illnesses consistent with a Shigella infection after eating at that restaurant. A Nature View Dairy raw milk Campylobacter outbreak in Connecticut has sickened at least two people, according to the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.  The illnesses were confirmed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. The dairy is located in Bridgewater, Connecticut. A stop sale and recall has been issued by the Department of Agriculture. The dairy is complying with a voluntary recall of all raw milk products from retail distribution locations in Connecticut, which include farm stores, natural food stores, and grocers. A Radiance of the Seas Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 180 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And three crew members were sick. The voyage dates for that cruise were September 20 to September 27, 2024. The voyage number is 20118. There were 2,172 passengers on the ship. Outbreaks on cruise ships can be common, but they are usually caused by norovirus, a highly contagious virus that causes the same symptoms as Salmonella. The close quarters of ships makes transmission of bacteria and viruses easy. During the outbreak, Royal Caribbean International and the crew on the ship made announcements to notify people of the outbreak, encourage case reporting, and stress good hygiene, especially handwashing. A LongHorn Steakhouse Shigella outbreak in Fairview Heights, Illinois has sickened 14 people, according to the St. Clair County Health Department. That restaurant is located at 6115 North Illinois Street in that city. The patients live in "multiple jurisdictions." Representatives from the restaurant have been cooperating with public health officials. Some of the illnesses were caused by shigellosis, which is an infectious disease caused by the Shigella bacteria. The investigation is ongoing. The Madre Oaxacan outbreak has sickened at least 36 people with Salmonella infections, according an email from the LA County of Public Health. The restaurant will allegedly reopen soon after passing a restaurant re-inspection that was conducted on September 24, 2024, according to news reports. The outbreak was uncovered on September 17, 2024, when reports of people suffering from gastrointestinal illnesses started coming in to the health department. The restaurant, which is located at 27007 Mc Bean Parkway in Valencia, California, was closed "due to [an] imminent health hazard for disease transmission," according to the email. A Rainbow Farm eggs Salmonella outbreak in Maine has sickened at least five people, according to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry. That farm is located in Orland, Maine. Those patients have all tested positive for Salmonella. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has identified the consumption of these eggs as the outbreak source. The eggs are being recalled. Public heath officials are working with Rainbow Farm to address this issue. Alleged Madre Oaxacan Restaurant Outbreak Sickens People in LA County

An alleged Madre Oaxacan and Mezcaleria Restaurant outbreak has sickened an unnamed number of people in LA County, according to news reports. The pathogen was not named. That restaurant is located at 27007 McBean Parkway in Valencia, California. The LA County Health Department started getting reports of "gastrointestinal symptoms" on Tuesday, September 17, 2023 after people ate at that facility. In response to this outbreak, public health officials have posted a survey for anyone who ate at the restaurant to fill out, whether or not they got sick.
