The deadly cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 162 people in the United States and Canada. Three people have died; two in Minnesota in the U.S. and one in Canada. And 62 are in the hospital; 45 in the United States and 17 in Canada. The number of products containing cantaloupe recalled in the wake of the deadly Salmonella outbreak is large and growing. So we decided to collect them all in one place so you have an easy way to identify if you have any of these items in your home. The Cantaloupe Recalls On November 9, 2023, Sofia Produce, doing business as Trufresh, recalled Malichita cantaloupe that were imported from Mexico. FDA Lists Stores Where Listeria Contaminated Peaches Were Sold
The FDA has listed the stores where possibly Listeria contaminated peaches by HMC Farms and Signature Farms were sold. There is a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to some of these products, with at least 11 sick and one death in seven states. Ill persons live in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, and Ohio. The recalled, conventionally grown peaches, plums, and nectarines were sold at the retail level from May 1, 2022 through November 15, 2022 and from May 1, 2023 through November 15, 2023. While these fruits are no longer available for sale, some people most likely froze them for later use. A deadly Minnesota Salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe has sickened at least 13 people in that state, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Two people who lived in Minnesota have sadly died. The nationwide outbreak has sickened at least 99 people in 32 states, with 45 people hospitalized. The brand of cantaloupe linked to these illnesses is Malichita, processed by Sofia Produce located in Nogales, Arizona, doing business as Trufresh. The cantaloupes were imported from Mexico. The FDA has weighed in on the deadly HMC Farms stone fruit Listeria monocytogenes outbreak. In that outbreak, 11 people in seven states have been sickened. One person who lived in California has died. Another patient experience premature labor. The fruits, under the labels HMC Farms and Signature Farms, have been recalled. The FDA notice also states that the recalled fruit was sold to other manufacturers who may have frozen or relabeled the recalled fruit to sell under another brand. The FDA advisories will be updated as more information is uncovered. The recalled fresh fruit is no longer available for sale in retail stores, but public health officials are worried that consumers have frozen this fruit for later use. The HMC Farms peaches Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has sickened at least 11 people in seven states. One person has sadly died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The peaches were also sold under the brand name Signature Farms. The case count by state is: California (3), Colorado (1), Florida (3), Illinois (1), Kansas (1), Michigan (1), and Ohio (1). The patient age range is from 30 to 80 years. Illness onset dates range from August 22, 2018 to August 16, 2023. Of ten people who gave information to investigators, all have been hospitalized. Cocco’s Candy Rolling Candy Recalled For Choking; One Death
Cocco's Candy Rolling Candy is being recalled for being a choking hazard. One death has been reported to the company to date. To eat the candy, you lick the rolling ball to get flavored liquid in your mouth. The candy's rolling ball can dislodge from the product into a child's mouth, which can cause choking. The recalling firms are Asaf Gida doing business as Cocco Candy of Turkey, and KGR Distribution Group of Passaic, New Jersey. About 145,800 of these products in various flavors are included in this recall. You can see pictures of the recalled products at the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) web site.
