The FDA has found more supplements that contain yellow oleander, a toxic plant that can cause serious illness and death. Yellow oleander can cause neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular adverse health effects that can be severe or fatal. These three new products should not be consumed. If you have purchased them, take them back to the place of purchase or discard them according to your community's methods of getting rid of toxic substances. Alleged Madre Oaxacan Restaurant Outbreak Sickens People in LA County
An alleged Madre Oaxacan and Mezcaleria Restaurant outbreak has sickened an unnamed number of people in LA County, according to news reports. The pathogen was not named. That restaurant is located at 27007 McBean Parkway in Valencia, California. The LA County Health Department started getting reports of "gastrointestinal symptoms" on Tuesday, September 17, 2023 after people ate at that facility. In response to this outbreak, public health officials have posted a survey for anyone who ate at the restaurant to fill out, whether or not they got sick. This can help narrow the focus of the investigation. The information on the survey is confidential. The survey asks if the respondent got sick on or before September 13, 2024. There are more cyclospora illnesses on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Table, and more illnesses in the Diamond Shruumz outbreak. There are eight active investigations on the Table; only two of them have been solved. The Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak linked to recalled Milo's Poultry Farms eggs remains the same, with at least 65 people sick in nine states. Twenty four people have been hospitalized. The patient case count by state is: California (2), Colorado (1), Illinois (11), Iowa (2), Michigan (2), Minnesota (3), Utah (1), Virginia (1), and Wisconsin (42). Boar’s Head Closes After Listeria Outbreak, Poor Inspections
The USDA states that the Boar's Head facility in Jarratt, Virginia has closed after a deadly Listeria monocytogenes outbreak and years of poor inspection reports. A letter sent to the company by the USDA describes the outbreak and inspection reports as justification for the closure. The USDA states, "your establishment failed to maintain sanitary conditions, as required by 9 CFR 416 et seq., and 500.3(a)(1), based on the determination that your establishment produced and shipped adulterated product." The Federal Meat Inspection Act gives FSIS the authority to set sanitation requirements and refuse to let meat products to be marked, labeled, stamped, or tagged as inspected and passed. A Paradise Grove raw milk Campylobacter outbreak in Idaho has sickened at least 18 people, according to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The Idaho Division of Public Health is collaborating with Central District Health (CDH), Eastern Idaho Public Health (EIPH), and Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) in this ongoing investigation. All 18 patients reported drinking raw milk before they got sick, and 17 patients said they drank raw milk that was produced by Pacific Grove Dairy in Jefferson County before getting sick.
