Deadly Minnesota Cantaloupe Outbreak Sickens 15 With 2 Deaths

The deadly Minnesota cantaloupe outbreak has sickened at least 15 people in that state with eight hospitalizations, and two people are dead. These illnesses and deaths are linked to recalled Malichita cantaloupes produced by Sofia Produce, doing business as Trufresh, that were imported from Mexico. The larger multistate Salmonella Sundsvall and Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak has sickened at least 117 people in 34 states. The people who sadly died in Minnesota lived in the Twin Cities area and in central Minnesota. Illness onset dates range from October 25 to November 11, 2023. Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix CHPG and Cut Fruit Express Fruit Mix contains Cantaloupes products are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these specific products, although there is a deadly Salmonella outbreak linked to the cantaloupe used to make those products. The recalling firm is Cut Fruit Express of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. The recalled products are Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix CHPG and Cut Fruit Express Fruit Mix contains Cantaloupe. The deadly cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has now sickened at least 117 people in 34 states, with 61 people hospitalized and two deaths in Minnesota, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Cantaloupe Recalls On November 9, 2023, Sofia Produce, doing business as Trufresh, recalled Malichita cantaloupe that were imported from Mexico. Kwik Trip cantaloupe products are being recalled in the wake of a deadly Salmonella outbreak that killed two people in Minnesota and sickened 99 nationwide. The recalling firm is Kwik Trip, Inc. The recalled products are three varieties of fresh cut fruit cup and tray items. They were made with cantaloupe from Trufresh that have been recalled and have been linked to the outbreak. This recall is in relation to the deadly Salmonella Sundsvall outbreak that has sickened at least 99 people in 32 states. The recalling firm is Jewel Manufacturing and Agribusiness LLC doing business as Crown Jewels Product of Fresno, California. All sizes of 1960 boxes of Malichita and Z Farms cantaloupe are included in this recall. They were sold between October 31, 2023 and November 9, 2023.
