A McDonald's Quarter Pounder E. coli Outbreak has sickened at last 49 people in 10 states, has hospitalized 10 of those patients, and has killed one person, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most of the sick people reported eating Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald's. The case count by state is: Colorado (26), Iowa (1), Kansas (1), Missouri (1), Montana (1), Nebraska (9), Oregon (1), Utah (4), Wisconsin (1), and Wyoming (1). Illness onset dates range from September 27, 2024 to October 11, 2024. The patient age range is from 13 to 88. One person has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. There is a new Salmonella Thompson outbreak on the FDA's Core Outbreak Investigation Table. There are eight investigations on the table; seven of them are unsolved. Two investigation have been closed. The new Salmonella Thompson outbreak has 23 people sick. The FDA has initiated traceback. This outbreak is currently unsolved. For the Salmonella Liverpool outbreak, there are three people sick. The FDA has not started traceback, has not inspected any facilities, and has not collected or tested samples. Milo’s Poultry Farms Eggs Salmonella Outbreak Ends With 93 Sick

The Milo's Poultry Farms eggs Salmonella outbreak has ended with 93 people sick in 12 states and 34 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That's an addition of three states and 30 more illnesses since the last update was issued on September 6, 2024. Many eggs, including duck eggs, were recalled in response to this outbreak. Most of the sick persons live in Wisconsin, where the farm is located. The LongHorn Steakhouse shigella outbreak in Illinois has sickened at least 68 people, according to a news release issued by the St. Clair COunty Health Department in Belleville, Illinois. That restaurant is located at 6115 North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights, Illinois. As of October 11, 2024, this case count is correct. There are 24 patients with positive Shigella lab reports, and an additional 44 people who are reporting illnesses consistent with a Shigella infection after eating at that restaurant. The patient age range is from 12 to 80 years. Nine of those patents have been hospitalized because they are so sick. A Radiance of the Seas Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 180 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And three crew members were sick. The voyage dates for that cruise were September 20 to September 27, 2024. The voyage number is 20118. There were 2,172 passengers on the ship. Outbreaks on cruise ships can be common, but they are usually caused by norovirus, a highly contagious virus that causes the same symptoms as Salmonella. The close quarters of ships makes transmission of bacteria and viruses easy. During the outbreak, Royal Caribbean International and the crew on the ship made announcements to notify people of the outbreak, encourage case reporting, and stress good hygiene, especially handwashing. The Madre Oaxacan Salmonella outbreak has sickened 45 people, according to an email sent by the LA County Department of Public Health. All of those infections are confirmed. Public health officials are investigating and responding to this outbreak. Officials became aware of this outbreak on September 17, 2024, when reports of illness were received. The restaurant is located at 27007 Mc Bean Parkway in Valencia, which is a neighborhood in Santa Clarita, California. The health department did not state if it is investigating food or employees as the possible source of this pathogen.
