It’s the Cashews: Seven Sick in Jules Cashew Brie Salmonella Outbreak

It's the cashews. Seven people are sick in the Jules Cashew Brie Salmonella outbreak, according to a new update posted today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That is an addition of two more patients since the last update in April. Three people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. And a new strain, Salmonella Urbana, has been added to the original outbreak strain of Salmonella Duisburg. Two people identified in this outbreak are sick with Salmonella Urbana infections. Jule’s Cashew Brie Salmonella Duisburg Outbreak Sickens 5 in 3 States

The FDA has posted a notice saying that a Jule's Cashew Brie Salmonella Duisburg outbreak has sickened at least five people in three states. The CDC has not yet posted an outbreak investigation notice. Jule's Foods recalled all of their products for possible Salmonella contamination on April 22, 2021. Jule's Cashew Brie is a vegan or plant-based cheese alternative. The firm is located in Carlsbad, California. Salmonella Duisburg is considered a rare serotype of this pathogen. All Jule’s Foods Recalled For Salmonella Contamination and Outbreak

All Jule's Foods recalled for Salmonella contamination and an outbreak, according to an FDA recall notice. The notice states that the FDA and CDC are investigating this outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not yet released any information about this outbreak, but there is a new Salmonella Duisburg outbreak that was posted on the FDA's Core Investigation Table on April 22, 2021 with five people sick. We still don't know the patient age range, illness onset dates, or whether anyone has been hospitalized. Massachusetts Plainville Ground Turkey Salmonella Outbreak Largest in US

The Massachusetts Plainville Farms ground turkey Salmonella outbreak is the largest in the nation, with 7 people sick. Overall, 28 people in 12 states are sick, with two people hospitalized and no deaths. We don't know why so many people are sick in that state. Three brands of raw ground turkey that officials say are linked to some of these illnesses were produced by Plainville Farms, including Plainville, Wegmans, and Nature's Promise. Those brands were sold at Wegmans, Food Lion, Giant Food, Giant/Martin’s, Hannaford and Stop & Shop across the country.  Most of the illnesses are concentrated in the northeastern United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is weighing on on the Plainville ground turkey Salmonella Hadar outbreak that has sickened at least 28 people in 12 states.  Epidemiologic, traceback, and laboratory data show that ground turkey has been making people sick. The patient case count by state is: Arizona (1), Connecticut (1), Indiana (1), Maine (1), Massachusetts (7), Missouri (1), New Hampshire (1), New Jersey (2), New York (4), North Carolina (3), Pennsylvania (4), and Virginia (2). A Wegmans Plainville ground turkey Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 28 people in 12 states. This outbreak was announced in a USDA recall notice. The USDA has issued a public health alert about 211,406 pounds of raw ground turkey in relation to this outbreak. This outbreak may be one that has been on the USDA outbreak investigation table for several weeks. The ground turkey was produced by Plainville Brands. A recall was not requested because the government believes that these products are no longer available for sale. FSIS is concerned that these products may be frozen in consumers' home freezers. El Abuelito Listeria Pregnancy Related Illnesses Added to Outbreak Total

Two El Abuelito Listeria pregnancy related illnesses were added to the listeriosis soft cheese outbreak total last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That company's queso fresco cheese was recalled earlier this month because lab tests conducted by the Connecticut Department of Health found the outbreak strain of Listeria monocytogenes in one sample of the product. Also last week, two more types of El Abuelito cheese were recalled: Quesillo (Oaxaca and string cheese) and Requeson (ricotta). The outbreak patient age range went from 45 to 75 with seven ill in the first outbreak notice to less than 1 year to 75 with ten sick in the latest notice, indicating that an infant was sickened. Deadly El Abuelito Listeria Outbreak Case Count Rises to 11 Sick

The CDC and FDA have updated their investigation of the now deadly El Abuelito Listeria outbreak. As of March 1, 2021, eleven people in four states are sick. Ten people have been hospitalized, and one person who lived in Maryland has died. You can read the outbreak notice, which has not been updated with this new information, in Spanish here. The patient case count by state is: Connecticut (1), Maryland (4), New York (4), and Virginia (2). The new patient lives in Virginia. The patient age range is from less than one year to 75. Ten of the patients are Hispanic, and six are female. CDC: Do Not Eat El Abuelito Cheese For Possible Listeria Contamination

The CDC is joining the FDA in warning the public: do not eat El Abuelito cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The cheese is linked, through whole genome sequencing testing, to the outbreak strain of Listeria that has sickened ten people in four states. Earlier this month Connecticut officials found the outbreak strain of Listeria in samples of El Abuelito queso fresco cheese that was taken from a store where an ill person bought that cheese. The government says that other El Abuelito cheeses that were made or handled in the same facility as the queso fresco cheese have not been recalled, but officials are concerned that they may be contaminated and could make people sick. FDA Warns Against All El Abuelito Cheese In Listeria Outbreak Investigation

The FDA warns against all El Abuelito cheese in the most current Listeria monocytogenes outbreak investigation notice that was posted today. The notice states, "Out of an abundance of caution, and due to the severity of Listeria infection, the FDA is expanding its warning to include all El Abuelito brand cheeses until more information is known. According to the firm’s website, this includes queso fresco, Oaxaca cheese, cotija cheese, and crema." Whole genome sequencing has linked El Abuelito queso fresco cheese to the outbreak. On February 19, 2021, tests conducted by the Connecticut State Laboratory determined that the Listeria monocytogenes found in a sample of the cheese purchased at a grocery store in that state is a match to the outbreak strain.
