The FDA is weighing in on the deadly cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak, which has sickened at least 99 people in 32 states, and killed two people who lived in Minnesota. The cantaloupe have labels that stated, "Malichita," or "Rudy,", "4050," and "Product of Mexico /produit du Mexique." Cantaloupe Salmonella Cases Soar to 99 With Two Deaths

The cantaloupe Salmonella outbreak has grown rapidly, with 56 more cases in 32 states, 28 new hospitalizations, and two deaths, according to the CDC. Two more recalls have been issued. That's an increase of 56 new cases, 28 new hospitalizations, and 17 new states since the last update was issued seven days ago. The deaths are also new. The USDA is offering tips on alternate turkey preparation methods for the Thanksgiving holiday. If you choose to prepare turkey other than roasting it in the oven, read carefully to avoid food poisoning or injuries. Whatever method you use, make sure that the turkey reaches 165°F, a temperature that must be read with a reliable and accurate thermometer. First, do not cook the turkey in brown paper bags from the grocery store. That product can emit toxic fumes and may cause a fire. The ink, glue and recycled materials in brown paper bags are especially toxic. FDA Weighs In On HMC Farms Stone Fruit Listeria Outbreak

The FDA has weighed in on the deadly HMC Farms stone fruit Listeria monocytogenes outbreak. In that outbreak, 11 people in seven states have been sickened. One person who lived in California has died. Another patient experience premature labor. The fruits, under the labels HMC Farms and Signature Farms, have been recalled. The FDA notice also states that the recalled fruit was sold to other manufacturers who may have frozen or relabeled the recalled fruit to sell under another brand. The FDA advisories will be updated as more information is uncovered. The recalled fresh fruit is no longer available for sale in retail stores, but public health officials are worried that consumers have frozen this fruit for later use. The HMC Farms peaches Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has sickened at least 11 people in seven states. One person has sadly died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The peaches were also sold under the brand name Signature Farms. The case count by state is: California (3), Colorado (1), Florida (3), Illinois (1), Kansas (1), Michigan (1), and Ohio (1). The patient age range is from 30 to 80 years. Illness onset dates range from August 22, 2018 to August 16, 2023. Of ten people who gave information to investigators, all have been hospitalized. HMC Farms Peaches Listeria Outbreak Sickens Eleven

An HMC Farms peaches Listeria monocytogenes outbreak has sickened eleven people, accordion to the FDA. The peaches, along with the company's plums and nectarines, are being voluntarily recalled. The recalling firm is HMC Group Marketing Inc. doing business as HMC Farms. The fruit was sold in retail stores between May 1, 2022 and November 15, 2022, and between May 1, 2023 and November 15, 2023. The fruit was sold nationwide as individual pieces of fruit with PLU stickers, or in consumer packaging, mostly 2 pound plastic bags. Some of the PLU numbers on the individual fruit are 4401, 4044, 4036, 4038, 4378, 3035, 4042, and 4040. A Malichita cantaloupe Salmonella Sundsvall outbreak has sickened at least 43 people in 15 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Seventeen people have been hospitalized because they are so sick, for a hospitalization rate of 39%, which is high for this type of outbreak. The cantaloupes in question are the Malichita brand that have been recalled. CDC Issues Alert For High Lead Levels In WanaBana Fruit Puree

The CDC has issued a HAN alert for high lead levels in WanaBana Fruit Puree. At least 22 children are sick with acute lead poisoning after allegedly consuming this product. The FDA, CDC, and state and local partners are investigating a "potential link" between children with high blood lead levels and eating this cinnamon apple puree and applesauce. Patients live in these states: Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, The patient age range is from one to three years. The FDA has weighed in the Mid America Pet Food Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least seven people, mostly infants, in seven states. A recall has been issued for all of that company's pet food products that have a best before date before 10/31/2024. The case count by state is: Alabama (1), California (1), Florida (1), Hawaii (1), Kentucky (1), Minnesota (1), and Oklahoma (1). Most of the patients, or 86%, are one year old or younger, and the remaining patient is younger than 65. Illness onset dates range from January 14, 2023 to August 19, 2023. One patient has been hospitalized because they are so sick. In interviews with families, five of the cases had exposure to dogs, and three reported that they had fed Victor pet food to their pets.
