These are the top 10 food poisoning outbreaks of 2024, in reverse order. There were quite a few outbreaks last year, with many illnesses and a few deaths. Top 10 Outbreaks of 2024: Raw Farm Salmonella E. coli 165 Sick

The top 10 list of outbreaks of 2024 continues with the Raw Farm Salmonella E. coli Campylobacter outbreak that sickened at least 165 people. Twenty people were hospitalized. The outbreak was not publicized when it happened. The patients lived in four states, but only California was named by the California CDC. One of the problems with raw milk is that children, who are one of the groups most susceptible to serious complications from food poisoning infections, make up the greatest number of patients in these types of outbreaks. Two Cats Die of Bird Flu After Drinking Raw Farm Raw Milk

Two cats have died of possible bird flu infections after drinking Raw Farm raw milk that has been recalled. That farm is located in California, according to the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department. The indoor cats consumed the raw milk before they got sick. Symptoms included lack of appetite, fever, and neurological signs. The cats died, and testing was positive for influenza A, a rare result in cats. The nationwide Influenza A-H5N1 bird flu outbreak has seen other cats infected with the virus after consuming infected raw milk. Raw Farm Raw Milk and Cream Recall For Bird Flu Expanded

The Raw Farm raw milk and cream recall for possible bird flu contamination has been expanded, according to the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department. There have been "multiple detections of H5 bird flu virus" in the company's milk and dairy cows over the past week. This is the second expansion of the original recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products. The original recall was issued on November 25, 2024. And a second lot of raw milk was recalled on November 29, 2024. All sizes of raw whole milk and cream products that were produced after November 9, 2024 are included in this recall. A second lot of Raw Farm raw milk is being recalled for possible bird flu contamination, according to the California Department wow Public Health (CDPH). The first recall was issued on November 25, 2024. The recall is for cream top, whole raw milk from that farm, which is located in Fresno County. The company has issued the voluntary recall at the state's request. The recalled milk has the lot code 20241119 and a best by date of 12/07/2024. If you purchased this milk, you should immediately return any remaining product to the store where you bought it. Pasteurized milk remains safe to drink. The ongoing spread of bird flu has been occurring in dairy cows, poultry, cats, and sporadic human cases. Raw Farm Raw Milk is being recalled for bird flu contamination in California, according to the California Department of Public Health. Raw Farm LLC is located in Fresco County. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product. Since Early October 2024, California has reported 29 confirmed human cases of bird flu. Twenty of those patients had direct contact with infected dairy cows. No person to person spread of bird flu has been detected in California. All cases have been mild and no one has been hospitalized. Because this virus, like all viruses, mutates, it may gain the ability to spread between people. A Raw Farm raw milk Salmonella, STEC E. coli, and Campylobacter outbreak has sickened at least 165 people in four states, according to the California Division of Communicable Disease Control. This outbreak was not publicized when it happened. The other three states have not been named. According to the preliminary results as of February 2, 204, there are 165 people sick in four states. In California, there are 162 cases in 27 local health jurisdictions. There are four multiple pathogen combinations that have sickened these patients: Salmonella Typhimurium, Campylobacter, and/or Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). FDA on end of Raw Farm raw Cheddar cheese E. coli outbreak states that at least 11 people in five states were sickened. Five people were hospitalized, and two people developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. The case count by state is: California (4), Colorado (3), New Jersey (1), Texas (1), and Utah (2). This case count has not changed since the last update was issued by the FDA and CDC on February 28, 2024. Illness onset dates ranged from October 18, 2023 to February 5, 2024. No deaths were reported. Public health officials collected various Raw Farm branded products for testing, and all samples tested negative for E. coli. The Raw Farm raw Cheddar cheese E. coli outbreak has ended with at least 11 people sick in five states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Five people were hospitalized beaus they were so sick. No recall was issued, although the CDC is warning against eating all raw cheese products from this firm. The raw cheddar cheese that sick people may have eaten included original and jalapeño flavors. All sizes of blocks with best by dates through 10/4/2024 and all sizes of shredded cheese packages with best by dates through 5/10/2024 were included in that warning. Raw Farm Raw Cheddar E. coli O157:H7 Outbreak Sickens 11

The Raw Farm raw Cheddar E. coli O157:H7 outbreak has now sickened at least 11 people in five states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Raw Farm voluntarily recalled their cheese on February 19, 2024 but has since withdrawn that recall. The FDA and CDC continue to recommend that people not eat the cheese because epidemiological evidence indicates that, "Raw Farm brand raw cheddar cheese is making people in this outbreak sick." In interviews with public health officials, 7 of 9 people interviewed, or 75%,  said they ate Raw Farm raw Cheddar cheese before they got sick.
