Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Cucumbers Ends With 551 Sick
The Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers is over with at least 551 people sick and 155 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The types of Salmonella were Salmonella Braenderup and Salmonella Africana. That is an increase of 108 more patients since the last update on the case count was issued on July 2, 2024. New Grower Added to Cucumber Salmonella Outbreak
A new grower has been added to the cucumber Salmonella outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). FDA's laboratory and traceback data, along with epidemiological information, has found that cucumbers from Bedner Growers of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Thomas Produce Company of Boca Raton, Florida, are the likely sources of illnesses in this outbreak. But those growers do not account for all illnesses. Thomas Produce Company supplied cucumbers to multiple points of service where patents reported eating cucumbers. An onsite inspection was conducted at Thomas Produce Company. Another cyclospora outbreak and a new Salmonella outbreak are listed on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table, bringing the number of outbreaks under investigation to eight. Six of those eight outbreaks are unsolved. The newest outbreak is a cyclospora outbreak that has sickened at least two people. Raw Farm Raw Milk Salmonella E. coli Outbreak Sickens 165
A Raw Farm raw milk Salmonella, STEC E. coli, and Campylobacter outbreak has sickened at least 165 people in four states, according to the California Division of Communicable Disease Control. This outbreak was not publicized when it happened. The other three states have not been named. According to the preliminary results as of February 2, 204, there are 165 people sick in four states. In California, there are 162 cases in 27 local health jurisdictions. There are four multiple pathogen combinations that have sickened these patients: Salmonella Typhimurium, Campylobacter, and/or Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).
