There are now eight deaths in Boar's Head deli meat Listeria monocytogenes outbreak, according to the CDC, with at least 57 people sick in 18 states. That's an increase of five more deaths, 14 more cases, and five more states added since the last update was issued on August 8, 2024. All 57 patients have been hospitalized. No specific product or deli or supplier has been identified so far. The case count by state is: Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), New Jersey (2), New York (7), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (2), and Wisconsin (2). Epidemiologic and traceback data showed that Infinite Herbs organic basil may have been contaminated with Salmonella bacteria and made people sick. This outbreak is over as of June 18, 2024. New Salmonella Outbreak on FDA Core Table Sickens 100

A new Salmonella outbreak on the FDA's Core Outbreak Investigation Table has sickened at least 100 people, according to the latest update. There are only two other outbreaks on the Table at this time: The E. coli O157:H7 outbreak allegedly linked to walnuts, and the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak that is allegedly linked to organic fresh basil. The new Salmonella outbreak is caused by Salmonella Africana, a variant that has not caused any illnesses in the United States since at least 2011. There are 100 people sick. The FDA has initiated traceback, but has not started inspections, and has not collected or tested samples. The FDA is weighing on the Infinite Herbs Basil Salmonella outbreak. There are at least 12 people sick in seven states. One person has been hospitalized because they are so sick. Wisconsin is Launching a Food Poisoning Reporting Tool

Wisconsin is launching a food poisoning reporting tool called "Feeling Sick? Report It Quick!" to help identify outbreaks and help the health department announce problems to the public to reduce illnesses. The online questionnaire takes less than five minutes to complete. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services State Health  Officer Paula Tran said in a statement, "By using this tool, Wisconsinites can help other people in their community from getting sick and prevent outbreaks. Ingesting contaminated food and water may cause just a little stomach upset for some, for others it can lead to hospitalization and be life threatening.
