Pennsylvania Sues Farmer Amos Miller For Illegal Raw Milk Sales
The state of Pennsylvania sues farmer Amos Miller to stop the illegal distribution of raw milk and other products, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry and the state's Department of Agriculture. The complaint is against Miller's Organic farm, its owners, and related businesses. Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture searched the farm after two people were sickened with E. coli infections after allegedly consuming eggnog made with raw milk from that facility. There are now 90 kids sick with lead poisoning in the Wanabana outbreak according to the FDA. These are confirmed reports that are potentially linked to the recalled product. The patients are between zero and 53 years of age, with a median age of one year. The FDA has found no information that this issue extends beyond the recalled products of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon fruit Puree, Schnucks Cinnamon Applesauce, and Weis Cinnamon Applesauce. There are 93 confirmed cases of lead poisoning, 233 probable cases, and 28 suspect cases. And the Fratelli Beretta brand of antipasto is mentioned for the first time in this notice. Testing Finds Chromium in WanaBaba Fruit Puree Products
FDA testing has found chromium in WanaBaba Fruit Puree products, in addition to the lead that was found previously. Anyone who ate these products should tell their healthcare provider that they have been exposed to chromium. Chromium is a naturally occurring element that is an essential trace nutrient, but depending on the form and the amount consumed, it can be toxic. Chromium III and Chromium IV are the predominant forms. Chromium IV is more toxic. Because of limitations in testing methods, the FDA was not able to definitively determine which form of chromium is in the cinnamon apple puree sample.
