FDA CORE Outbreak Table Updated With New Listeria Outbreak

The FDA CORE Outbreak Investigation Table has been updated with a new Listeria outbreak and information about other outbreaks. There are currently four active outbreak investigations on the table. The new Listeria outbreak is not yet linked to any food or product. There are at least 26 people who are sick. No recall has been initiated, traceback has not started, there has been no on-site inspection, and no samples have been collected or analyzed. Pennsylvania Sues Farmer Amos Miller For Illegal Raw Milk Sales

The state of Pennsylvania sues farmer Amos Miller to stop the illegal distribution of raw milk and other products, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry and the state's Department of Agriculture. The complaint is against Miller's Organic farm, its owners, and related businesses. Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture searched the farm after two people were sickened with E. coli infections after allegedly consuming eggnog made with raw milk from that facility. The lawsuit was filed after "years of attempts by state and federal officials to bring the farm into compliance with the law," according to the Attorney General. Now 90 Kids Sick With Lead Poisoning in WanaBana Outbreak

There are now 90 kids sick with lead poisoning in the Wanabana outbreak according to the FDA. These are confirmed reports that are potentially linked to the recalled product. The patients are between zero and 53 years of age, with a median age of one year. The FDA has found no information that this issue extends beyond the recalled products of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon fruit Puree, Schnucks Cinnamon Applesauce, and Weis Cinnamon Applesauce. These products were sold nationwide at the retail level, including Amazon, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar combination stores, and other online outlets. Now 354 Kids Sick in WanaBana Purees Lead Poisoning Outbreak

There are now 354 kids sick in the WanaBana purees lead and chromium poisoning outbreak, according to the CDC. The FDA has found chromium in those products. There are 93 confirmed cases of lead poisoning, 233 probable cases, and 28 suspect cases. The patients live in these 41 states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Charcuterie Salmonella Outbreak Grows to 47 Sick in 22 States

The charcuterie Salmonella outbreak has grown to include 47 patients in 22 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Ten people have been hospitalized because they are so ill. That is an increase of eight more states, 23 new patients, and five new hospitalizations since the original notice of the outbreak was issued on January 5, 2024. Public Health Alert Issued For More Ready to Eat Charcuterie

A public health alert has been issued for more ready to eat charcuterie that was sold at Costco and Sam's Club, according to the USDA. The brands include Fratelli Beretta and Busseto. A recall was not issued because the products are no longer for sale at those stores. In the previous recall, only Sam's Club was mentioned as a store that sold these products. And the Fratelli Beretta brand of antipasto is mentioned for the first time in this notice. The Fratelli Beretta Antipasto Gran Beretta was sold at Costco in a 24 ounce twin-pack (two 12 ounce trays). The deadly Salmonella cantaloupe outbreak has ended with 407 sick in 44 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That is an increase of 105 more patients, 29 more hospitalizations, two more states (Vermont and North Dakota) and two more deaths since the last update was issued on December 15, 2023. The Victor Pet Food Salmonella outbreak has ended with at least seven people sick in seven states, according to the CDC. One person was hospitalized. Several types and brands of dog and cat food were recalled in relation to this outbreak. The recalled pet foods were Mid America Pet Food, all dog and cat food with best by dates before 10/31/2024 and multiple bag sizes including: 5 pounds, 15 pounds, 16 pounds, 30 pounds, 40 pounds, and 50 pounds. Testing Finds Chromium in WanaBaba Fruit Puree Products

FDA testing has found chromium in WanaBaba Fruit Puree products, in addition to the lead that was found previously. Anyone who ate these products should tell their healthcare provider that they have been exposed to chromium. Chromium is a naturally occurring element that is an essential trace nutrient, but depending on the form and the amount consumed, it can be toxic. Chromium III and Chromium IV are the predominant forms. Chromium IV is more toxic. Because of limitations in testing methods, the FDA was not able to definitively determine which form of chromium is in the cinnamon apple puree sample.
