A new Salmonella Javiana outbreak has been listed on the FDA's Core Outbreak Investigation Table. At least 19 people are sick in this outbreak, which was posted on November 24, 2021. The product linked to the illnesses has not been identified. According to the information that the FDA has released at this time, no recall has been initiated, no traceback has started, there have been no on-site investigations, and no sample collection or analysis has begun. This is typical for the first outbreak notice on this table, which only provides information to the public if there is some type of action that consumers can take.. Green Giant Fresh Onion Recall For Possible Salmonella Updated

The Green Giant Fresh onion voluntary recall for possible Salmonella contamination that was issued on October 26, 2021 has been updated because another distribution location was identified. The onions were distributed to a UNFI retail distribution center in Champaign, Illinois, as well as to distribution centers in Hopkins, Minnesota; Bismarck, North Dakota; and Fargo, North Dakota. The onions were imported from Mexico. This recall does not affect any other Green Giant Fresh products or any Green Giant canned or frozen vegetable items. Now 892 Sick in the Salmonella Onion Outbreak; 183 Hospitalized

There are now 892 sick in Salmonella onion outbreak that is linked to red, white, and yellow onions imported from Mexico as of November 12, 2021. One hundred eighty three people have been hospitalized. That is an increase of 84 new cases, one new state (Hawaii), and 26 new hospitalizations since the last update on October 29, 2021. Alsum Farms onions are recalled for possible Salmonella contamination, according to an FDA notice. The fresh yellow, white, and red onions were delivered to retailers in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Pennsylvania between July 13, 2021 and August 18, 2021. The onions were imported from Chihuahua, Mexico by Keeler Family Farms. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with onions marketed through Keeler Family Farms. Mystery Listeria Outbreak Ends; Three Other Outbreaks Still Active

The mystery Listeria outbreak has ended, and three other outbreaks on the FDA Core Outbreak Investigation Table are still active, according to the FDA. The three active outbreak investigations include the Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak linked to onions imported from Mexico; the Salmonella Thompson outbreak linked to Northeast Seafood in Colorado; and the acute non-viral hepatitis outbreak linked to Real Water Alkaline Bottled Water. The Listeria monocytogenes outbreak sickened 20 people, which is large for an outbreak caused by that pathogen. More Salmonella Onions Recalled in Canada For Possible Contamination

More onions are being recalled in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination. This recall was triggered by the huge Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak linked to onions in the United States that has sickened more than 800 people in 37 states. No illnesses are reported in Canada in connection with these recalled items. The onions were imported from Mexico by ProSource Produce and Keeler Family Farms. The recalled items include Dorsey yellow onions, sold in 10 pound mesh sacks with UPC number 0 33383 60004 8. All products sold between July 7, 2021 and October 28, 2021 are recalled. Onion Salmonella Recalls Begin in Association With Outbreak

Onion Salmonella recalls, including secondary recalls, have started in association with a huge outbreak that has sickened at least 808 people in 37 states and Puerto Rico. The onions were imported from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. It's important to understand that if you aren't sure whether or not onions you have in your home are part of this recall, you should throw them away anyway. The cost of replacing onions is minimal compared to the cost of a Salmonella infection. The recalls started on October 21, 2021 and continue to this day. The onions have a shelf life of three months if properly stored, so are most likely not available for sale any more. But some may be frozen in consumers' home freezers. The FDA has published the Keeler Family Farms Salmonella onions retail distribution list, associated with the huge multistate Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak that has sickened at least 808 people in 37 states. The list is very short, as opposed to the retail distribution list for ProSource Produce onions, which was released a few days ago. The retail distribution list for Keeler Family Farm Salmonella onions is for HelloFresh meal delivery services, and Gordon Food Service stores, located in several towns in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The recall notice states that the onions from Keeler Family Farms were distributed to wholesales, retail stores, and restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
