Gold Medal Flour Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 13

A Gold Medal Flour Salmonella Infantis outbreak has sickened at least 13 people in 12 states, according to the FDA. Three people have been hospitalized because they are so ill. General Mills recalled two types of its flour on April  28, 2023 because Salmonella Infantis, the same strain as the pathogen that has sickened people, was found in one type of that flour. The case count by state is: California (1), Illinois (2), Iowa (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (1), New York (1), Ohio (1), Oregon (1), Tennessee (1), and Virginia (1). Revolution Farms Lettuces Linked to Listeria Outbreak

Revolution Farms lettuces linked to Listeria outbreak, according to the FDA, and all of its lettuces and salad kits are recalled. There is no information from the CDC or FDA yet on this outbreak. The original recall was posted on April 5, 2023. The recalling firm is Revolution Farms of Caledonia, Michigan. The expansion now includes all products sold under the Revolution Farms brand name. Flour linked to Salmonella Infantis outbreak has sickened at least 12 people in 11 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A specific brand of flour has not yet been identified, but this is a good opportunity to remind everyone that you should not eat any dough or batter that is made with uncooked flour. The case count by state is: California (1), Illinois (2), Iowa (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), Nebraska (1), New York (1), Ohio (1), Oregon (1), Tennessee (1), and Virginia (1). Alleged Wendy’s E. coli Outbreak Was Number One in 2022

The alleged Wendy's E. coli outbreak was the number one outbreak of 2022, with at least 109 people sick in six states, and 52 patients hospitalized. The CDC says that they were unable to confirm a food source, but more than 80% of patients who were interviewed by public health officials said they ate at a Wendy's restaurant, choosing burgers and sandwiches made with romaine lettuce, before they got sick. The case count by state was: Indiana (11), Kentucky (2), Michigan (67), New York (1), Ohio (24), and Pennsylvania (4). The Wendy's restaurants where sick people ate were in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Earth Grown Falafel E. coli Outbreak Was Number Four of 2022

The Earth Grown Falafel E. coli O121 outbreak was the number four outbreak of 2022, sickening at least 24 people in six states according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Frozen Earth Grown Vegan Traditional Falafel and Garlic & Herb Falafel were both recalled after the outbreak was announced. Those products were sold at Aldi stores. The case count by state was: Florida (2), Iowa (2), Kansas (1), Michigan (13), Ohio (1), and Wisconsin (5). The patient age range was from under the age of one to 77 years, and illness onset date ranged from July 13, 2022 to October 24, 2022. Health Alert For Seville Spread by Yellow House Cheese in OH

A health alert has been issued for Seville Spread in two flavors, by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The product was not tested for antibiotics, and there are no pasteurization records for the milk that was used to make the cheese. All milk that is used to make dairy products in that state must be tested for the presence of antibiotics before processing. People who are allergic to some types of antibiotics could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. And the milk that is used to make this type of soft cheese must be pasteurized. Unpasteurized milk may contain harmful pathogens such as Campylobacter, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E. coli that can make you very sick. Bluffton Baking Pumpkin Pie Cookies Associated with OH Outbreak

A possible Salmonella outbreak in Ohio may be associated with Bluffton Baking Pumpkin Pie Stuffed Cheesecake Cookies, according to the Ohio Department of Agriculture. That home bakery is located at 9301 Augsburger Road in Bluffton, Ohio.   The recalled product is Bluffton Baking Pumpkin Pie Stuffed Cheesecake Cookies that were sold from September 30 to October 4, 2022 in the Hancock or Putnam County markets. The cookies have been recalled out of an abundance of caution after the bakery found that some of the ingredients may have been contaminated with the pathogen. Five people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. A recall for two kinds of that falafel has been issued. These products were sold exclusively at Aldi stores. Alleged Wendy’s E. coli O157:H7 Outbreak Ends With 109 Sick

The alleged Wendy's E. coli O157:H7 outbreak has ended with 109 sick and 52 hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC states that officials were unable to confirm the food source, but 83% of patients interviewed said they ate at a Wendy's fast food restaurant before they got sick. And many of those patients said they ate burgers and sandwiches made with romaine lettuce. The case count by state is: Indiana (11), Kentucky (2), Michigan (67), New York (1), Ohio (24), and Pennsylvania (4). That's an increase of 12 more patients since the  last update on September 1, 2022. New Salmonella Litchfield Outbreak on FDA CORE Table

A new Salmonella Litchfield outbreak has been listed on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. Twenty-eight people are sick. We do not know the patient age range, illness onset dates, or whether or not anyone has been hospitalized. Traceback has been initiated in this new outbreak, but there has been no recall, no on-site inspection, and no sample collection and analysis has been started. The CDC has not mentioned this outbreak yet because there is no action consumers can take at this time to protect themselves. Other outbreak investigations have been updated.
