General Mills recalled two types of its flour on April 28, 2023 because Salmonella Infantis, the same strain as the pathogen that has sickened people, was found in one type of that flour. The CDC says that they were unable to confirm a food source, but more than 80% of patients who were interviewed by public health officials said they ate at a Wendy's restaurant, choosing burgers and sandwiches made with romaine lettuce, before they got sick. Frozen Earth Grown Vegan Traditional Falafel and Garlic & Herb Falafel were both recalled after the outbreak was announced. Those products were sold at Aldi stores. Health Alert For Seville Spread by Yellow House Cheese in OH
A health alert has been issued for Seville Spread in two flavors, by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The product was not tested for antibiotics, and there are no pasteurization records for the milk that was used to make the cheese. All milk that is used to make dairy products in that state must be tested for the presence of antibiotics before processing. People who are allergic to some types of antibiotics could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. And the milk that is used to make this type of soft cheese must be pasteurized. Unpasteurized milk may contain harmful pathogens such as Campylobacter, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E. coli that can make you very sick. That home bakery is located at 9301 Augsburger Road in Bluffton, Ohio. The recalled product is Bluffton Baking Pumpkin Pie Stuffed Cheesecake Cookies that were sold from September 30 to October 4, 2022 in the Hancock or Putnam County markets. The cookies have been recalled out of an abundance of caution after the bakery found that some of the ingredients may have been contaminated with the pathogen. The CDC states that officials were unable to confirm the food source, but 83% of patients interviewed said they ate at a Wendy's fast food restaurant before they got sick. And many of those patients said they ate burgers and sandwiches made with romaine lettuce. A new Salmonella Litchfield outbreak has been listed on the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. Twenty-eight people are sick. We do not know the patient age range, illness onset dates, or whether or not anyone has been hospitalized. Traceback has been initiated in this new outbreak, but there has been no recall, no on-site inspection, and no sample collection and analysis has been started.
