Lewis Bay Oysters Associated With MA Campylobacter Outbreak

Lewis Bay Oysters are associated with a Campylobacter outbreak in Massachusetts, according to the FDA. These oysters were harvested from two lease areas in the SC28, Lewis Bay, Massachusetts harvest area between July 1, 2024 and July 18, 2024. The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries closed SC28 on July 19, 2024 becasue of an outbreak of Campylobacter in Massachusetts. There is no mention about how many people are sick, illness onset dates, the patient age range, or if anyone has been hospitalized. Two Massachusetts certified dealers, Chatham Shellfish Company (MA 3132 SS, AQ) and Island Creek Oysters (MA 185438 SP) recalled the oysters. New Cyclospora Outbreaks on FDA CORE Outbreak Table

Two new Cyclospora outbreaks have been added to the FDA's CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. There are a total of six outbreaks on the table. Four of them have not been solved. A new outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis illnesses linked to a not yet identified product has been added to the table. There are 26 people sick. FDA has initiated traceback, but no samples have been collected and no inspection ordered. Another new outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis illnesses linked to a not yet identified product has been added to the table. Sixteen people are sick in that outbreak. Boar’s Head Deli Meats Listeria Recall Vastly Expanded

The Boar's Head deli meats Listeria monocytogenes recall has been vastly expanded to include an additional 7 million pounds of product. Whole genome sequencing showed that a liverwurst sample that was collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for the outbreak strain. At least 34 people in 13 states are sick with listeriosis in the outbreak linked to these products. Two people have died. And 33 of those patients have been hospitalized. The expansion includes 71 products that were produced between May 10, 2024 and July 29, 2024, under the Boar's Head and Old Country brand names. Boar’s Head Listeria Outbreak Sickens 34; Outbreak Strain Found

The deadly Boar's Head Listeria outbreak has sickened at least 34 people in 13 states and hospitalized 33, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). There are two deaths associated with this outbreak; one in Illinois and one in New Jersey. And the recall for Boar's Head deli meats has been expanded. The case count by state is: Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Indiana (1), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), New Jersey (2), New York (12), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (2), and Wisconsin (1). Flathead MT E. coli Outbreak Linked to Wagyu Ground Beef

The Flathead MT E. coli outbreak is linked to wagyu ground beef  served at several restaurants, according to the Flathead City-County Heath Department and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. The source was wagyu beef from one lot number. Wagyu beef comes from a Japanese breed and is highly marbled with great flavor. All 14 cases said they ate undercooked or made to order burgers. The last known date of consumption was July 14, 2024. The following restaurants are associated with the 14 cases of reported illness in this outbreak: Gunsight Saloon; Hops Downtown Grill; Tamarack Brewing Company; the Lodge at Whitefish Lake; and Harbor Grille. Deadly Listeria Outbreak Associated with Boar’s Head Meats

The deadly Listeria monocytogenes outbreak announced on July 19, 2024 by the CDC is associated with recalled Boar's Head meats. Testing found Listeria monocytogenes in an unopened package of Boar's Head liverwurst collected as part of the investigation. Testing is underway to see if it is the outbreak strain. The case count by state is: Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Indiana (1), Maryland (6), Massachusetts (2), Minnesota (1), Missouri (2), New Jersey (2), New York (12), North Carolina (1), Pennsylvania (1), Virginia (2), and Wisconsin (1). Campylobacter Outbreak: Recompense Cove American/Eastern Oysters

There is a Campylobacter outbreak associated with Recompense Cove American/Eastern Oysters, according to the FDA, so retailers and restaurants should not sell them and consumers should not eat them. On July 11, 2023, (we are checking with the FDA about this date; it's probably 2024), the Maine Department of Marine Resources notified the FDA of an outbreak of Campylobacter illnesses associated with those oysters. The oysters were recalled on June 17, 2024. According to the Maine DMR, they were notified of two cases of Campylobacter illnesses attributed to oyster consumption on July 10, 2024. All implicated leases were closed on July 11, 2024. Three more illnesses were reported after the leases were closed, so more aquaculture leases were closed. Deadly Ground Beef E. coli Outbreak Sickens 13 in Montana

A deadly ground beef E. coli outbreak has sickened at least 13 people in Montana, according to the Flathead City-County Health Department. That department is working with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services and other local health departments to investigate this E. coli O157:H7 outbreak. The investigation has identified at least 13 people associated with this outbreak. Many of the patients have experienced moderate to severe symptoms. One death has occurred. Preliminary findings indicate that the ground beef containing E. coli may be the "exposure of concern." More clinical and food samples are being tested. More Illnesses Reported in Unsolved Outbreak by FDA

More illnesses reported in the unsolved Salmonella Imuru outbreak by FDA on that agency'c CORE Outbreak Table. Altogether there are five outbreaks on the table; three of them are not solved or linked to a specific product. The Salmonella Imuru outbreak case count has increased from 29 to 31 people sick. The FDA has conducted traceback, but there is no recall, no inspection of a facility, and no samples have been collected and analyzed. We do not know the patient age range, where the patients live, and whether or not anyone has been hospitalized. Diamond Shruumz Outbreak Grows to Include 74 Sick, 2 Deaths

The Diamond Shruumz outbreak grows to include 74 sick with two potentially associated deaths that are under investigation, according to the FDA. That is an increase of five more illnesses and one more potential death since the last update was issued a week ago. Of those patients, 62 have reported seeking medical care, and 28 have been hospitalized.
